Mirza Asadullah Khan "Ghalib" ki ghazal pesh-e-Khidmat hai:


kii vafaa hamase to Gair use jafaa kahate hai.n
hotii aa_ii hai ke achchho.n ko buraa kahate hai.n

aaj ham apanii pareshaanii-e-Khaatir un se
kahane jaate to hai.n, par dekhiye kyaa kahate hai.n

agale vaqto.n ke hai.n ye log, i.nhe.n kuchh na kaho
jo may-o-naGme.n ko a.ndoharuubaa kahate hai.n

[a.ndoharuubaa = cure for pain or sorrow]

dil me.n aa jaa_e hai, hotii hai jo fursat Gash se
aur phir kaun se naale ko rasaa kahate hai.n?

[Gash = senseless/in a faint; rasaa = with a long reach]

hai par-e-sarahad-e-idaraak se apanaa masjuud
qible ko, ahal-e-nazar, qiblaanumaa kahate hai.n

[par-e-sarahad-e-idaraak = beyond the boundaries of knowledge]
[masjuud = to whom one bows i.e. God]

paa-e-afagaar pe jab se tujhe raham aayaa hai
Khaar-e-raah ko tere ham mehr-e-giyaa kahate hai.n

[paa-e-afagaar = wounded feet; Khaar-e-raah = thorn in the road; 
mehr-e-giyaa = (blade of) grass of kindness]

ik sharar dil me.n hai, us se ko_ii ghabaraayegaa kyaa
aag mataluub hai hamako, jo havaa kahate hai.n

dekhiye laatii hai us shoKh kii naKhvat kyaa ra.ng
us kii har baat pe ham naam-e-Khudaa kahate hai.n

[naKhvat = pride]

vahashat-o-sheftaa ab marsiyaa kahave.n shaayad
mar gayaa "Ghalib"-e-aashuftaanavaa kahate hai.n

[vahashat-o-sheftaa = two poets of that time; marsiyaa = eulogy/poem of 
sorrow; aashuftaanavaa = one who speaks nonsense]
