A ghazal by Farukh Kaiser. This ghazal is from Jagjit and Chitra Singh's
Rare Gems album, a must-buy for all ghazal lovers.

apanaa Gam bhuul gaye terii jafaa bhuul gaye
ham to haar baat muhabbat ke sivaa bhuul gaye

ham akele hi nahii.n pyaar ke diivaane sanam
aap bhii nazare.n jhukaane kii adaa bhuul gaye

ab to sochaa hai ke daaman hii teraa thaame.nge
haath jab hamane uThaaye hai.n duaa bhuul gaye

shukr samajho yaa ise apanii shikaayat samajho.n
tum ne vo dard diyaa hai ke davaa bhuul gaye

The ghazal consists of only these 4 ashaar. Simple words, nicely sung.
Farukh Kaiser, of course, is much better known for his work as a
lyricist in Hindi films.

About the album:

A double cassette set with 18 ghazals, each a veritable gem. A
surprisingly high number of Jigar Moradabadi ghazals (4); Some other
poets whose work is present: Ghalib (3), Meer (1), Zauq (1), Ameer
Minai(1) [no, its not sarakti jaaye hai rukh se....] and Daag (1). Some
lesser known poets are also present. All the ghazals have been sung in
the traditional style with minimal orchestration. For once, even Chitra
Singh sounds bearable. :-) Music for all the ghazals except the first
two in the album has been provided by Jagjit Singh himself.

The Rare Gems album is a compilation of their various recordings that
came out between 1960-1975 on individual EPs/LPs. Most of them date from
the era before The Unforgettables - the album that catapulted them to
fame overnight - was released.

This particular ghazal is the first ghazal in the album and the earliest
recording. It is sung by Jagjit Singh, and his voice had yet to reach
the smoothness that most of us are used to hearing from him. The Jagjit
Singh trademark of immaculate pronunciation, is very much in evidence,
though. Music is by C.K.Chauhan
