Khudaa jaane kahaa.N hai "Asghar"-e-diivaanaa baraso.n se
ki us ko Dhuu.NDhate hai.n ka'abaa-o-butaKhaanaa baraso.n se

** Including one's taKhallus in the 'matlaa' instead 
of the 'maqtaa' was not a common practice. However,
some poets did follow this practice, though not on a 
regular basis. It can be found quite often in Meer 
Taqi Meer 's poetry. **

ta.Dapanaa hai na jalanaa hai na jalakar Khaak honaa hai
ye kyo.n so_ii hu_ii hai fitrat-e-paravaanaa baraso.n se

[fitrat = nature; paravaanaa = moth]
** shamaa-paravaanaa is one of the common metaphors 
used in Urdu poetry to portray love between a man 
and a woman **

ko_ii aisaa nahii.n yaarab ki jo is dard ko samajhe
nahii.n maaluum kyo.n Khaamosh hai diivaanaa baraso.n se

[yaarab = O God (it is used as an interjection)]

hasiino.n par na ra.ng aayaa na phuulo.n me.n bahaar aa_ii
nahii.n aayaa jo lab par naGmaa-e-mastaanaa baraso.n se

[lab = lip; naGmaa = song/melody; naGmaa-e-mastaanaa = happy song]
