zabaa.N suKhan ko, suKhan baa.Nkapan ko tarasegaa 
suKhan-kadaa merii tarz-e-suKhan ko tarasegaa 

** The tongue shall pine for speech, speech shall look for artistry
The gatherings of poets shall pine for my style of speaking **

[tarz = style]


naye pyaale sahii tere daur me.n saaqii 
ye daur merii sharaab-e-kohan ko tarasegaa 

** You may serve your wine in new goblets in every round, O bartender
This era of drinking will pine for my old wine**

[daur = course/age/era]


mujhe to Khair vatan chho.D ke aman na milii 
vatan bhii mujh se Gariib-ul-vatan ko tarasegaa 

** Its one thing that I didn't find peace after leaving my country
It is another matter that my country pines for the likes of me **

[Gariib-ul-vatan = people in exile]


u.nhii.n ke dam se farozaa.N hai.n millato.n ke charaaG 
zamaanaa sohabat-e-arabaab-e-fan ko tarasegaa 

** It is due to such men that the flame of brotherhood is kept alive
the world shall pine for the company of men of learning **


badal sako to badal do ye baaGabaa.N varanaa 
ye baaG saayaa-e-saard-o-samaa.N ko tarasegaa 

** If you have the capability change the gardener
Else this garden will soon pine for its blossoms **


havaa-e-zulm yahii hai to dekhanaa ek din 
zamii.n paanii ko suuraj kiran ko tarasegaa 

** If such are the winds of oppression then one day
the earth shall pine for water, the sun for its rays **
