Mehfil-e-Gazal #488

Poet: Khatir Gaznavi

First of all I would like to apologise to
subscribers of MeG. I believe the "Khumaar"
ghazal posted yesterday was not by Khumar
Barabankvi but was the work of an aspiring
but self-effacing poet by the name of Rajiv
Chakravarti. You can read his poems at:

www.geocities.com/rc_2/urdu_poetry.htm

The person who sent in the ghazal didn't
know about this either, I suppose. :-) Anyway,
my apologies for the mix up.

Today's ghazal has been sung by Amanat Ali Khan:

go zaraa sii baat par baraso.n ke yaaraane gaye
lekin itanaa to huaa kuchh log pahachaane gaye

[go = although]

mai.n ise shoharat kahuu.N yaa apanii rusvaaii kahuu.N
mujh se pahale us galii me.n mere afsaane gaye

[shoharat = fame; rusvaa_ii = disgrace]

vahashate.n kuchh is tarah apanaa muqadaar ho gaii.n
ham jahaa.N pahu.Nche hamaare saath viiraane gaye

[vahashat = loneliness]

yuu.N to vo merii rag-e-jaa.N se bhii the nazadiik_tar
aa.Nsuo.n kii dhundh me.n mujh se na pahachaane gaye

[rag-e-jaa.N = vein of life; nazadiik_tar = nearer; dhundh = fog]

ab bhii un yaado.n kii Khushbuu zahan me.n mahafuus hai
baarahaa ham jin se gulazaaro.n ko mahakaane gaye

[zahan = mind; mahafuus = safe; baarahaa = every time]
