Poet: 'Shohrat' Bukhari


A few of our fellow subscribers wrote to tell me that the 
poet of yesterday's ghazal was Karrar Noori and not Qaraar
Noori. Please make a note of it. I got the name of the poet 
from a Peenaz Masani album but music companies are notoriously
lax about such things.


koThe ujaa.D khi.Dakiyaa.N chup raaste udaas
jaate hii un ke kuchh na rahaa zindagii ke paas

do pal baras ke abr ne dariyaa kaa ruKh kiyaa
tapatii zamii.n se paharo.n nikalatii rahi bha.Daas

[abr = cloud; dariyaa = river; ruKh = face]

ashko.n se kis ko pyaar hai aaho.n se kis ko uns
lekin ye dil ki jis ko Khushii aa sakii na raas

[uns = liking/love]

hoshiyaar ai naved-e-ajal luT na jaa_iyo
phirataa hai ko_ii aaTh pahar dil ke aas paas

[naved-e-ajal = death's call]

jaise kabhii ta'alluq-e-Khaatir nahii.n rahaa
yuu.N ruuTh kar chalii ga_ii "Shohrat" har ek aas

[ta'alluq = relationship]
