vo baate.n terii vo fasaane tere 
shaguftaa shaguftaa bahaane tere 

bas ek daaG-e-sajdaa merii kaayenaat 
jabiine.n terii aastaane tere 

[kaayenaat = universe; jabii.n = forehead; aastaa.N = threshold]


zamiin-e-sadaf me.n kiraN kaa maqaam 
anokhe anokhe Thikaane tere 

[sadaf = shell/mother-of-pearl;  maqaam = dwelling place]


faqiiro.n kaa jamaghaT gha.Dii do gha.Dii 
sharaabe.n terii baadaaKhaane tere 

[jamaghaT = crowd/mob]


bahaar-o-Khizaa.N kam-nigaaho.n ke vaham 
bure yaa bhale sab zamaane tere 

[Khizaa.N = autumn/decay; vaham = doubt/suspicion]


"Adam" bhii hai teraa hikaayat_kadaah 
kahaa.N tak gaye hai.n fasaane tere 

[hikaayat = story]
