I would like to thank all those who sent me warm 
wishes for my move and those who welcomed me to 
the Dallas area. The outpouring of love and warmth 
never ceases to amaze me. I am also very grateful 
to all of you for being so patient with me. 

The unintentionally long silence caused quite a few 
of you to write to me inquiring about the status of 
the mailing lists. All I can say is that:

duniyaa ne terii yaad se begaanaa kar diyaa
tujh se bhii dil fareb hai.n Gam roz_gaar ke

Well, not completely 'begaanaa'. :-) Anyway, here I 
am back in the saddle and it is time to pick up from 
where we left off. We start with a Nasir Kazmi ghazal. 
For those who might be interested, there is an audio 
tape released by EMI Pakistan with Nasir Kazmi ghazals 
sung by different singers. More details at the end of 
the post.


hotii hai tere naam se vahashat kabhii kabhii
bar_ham hu_ii hai yuu.N bhii tabiiyat kabhii kabhii

[vahashat = anxiety; bar_ham = restless]

dil ko kahaa.N nasiib ye taufiiq-e-iztiraab
milatii hai zindagii me.n ye raahat kabhii kabhii

josh-e-junuu.N me.n dard kii tuGayaaniyo.n ke saath
ashko.n me.n Dhal ga_ii terii suurat kabhii kabhii

[tuGayaanii = storm]

tere qariib rah ke bhii dil mutama_iin na thaa
guzarii hai mujh pe bhii ye qayaamat kabhii kabhii

[mutama_iin = content/satisfied]

kuchh apanaa hosh thaa na tumhaaraa Khayal thaa
yuu.N bhii guzar ga_ii shab-e-furqat kabhii kabhii

[shab-e-furqat = night of separation]

ai dost ham ne tark-e-muhabbat ke baavajuud
mahasuus kii hai terii zaruurat kabhii kabhii

[tark-e-muhabbat = relinquishing of love; baavajuud = inspite of]


I am reminded of a song penned by Sahir Ludhianvi for 
the film 'Ankhen' starring Mala Sinha and Dharmendra:

milatii hai zindagii me.n muhabbat kabhii kabhii 
hotii hai dil_baro.n kii inaayat kabhii kabhii
