Before I continue my account of the mushaira in Houston, 
I must thank two of my friends - Zoya and Rafia - who 
not only invited me to Houston for the mushaira but also 
made it possible for me to have lunch with the poets. It 
was a wonderful experience, something I will cherish my 
whole life.

At the mushaira, there was a fairly big gathering. The 
mushaira was scheduled to start at 9:00 pm but didn't 
actually get off the ground till about 10:00 pm. 


Anyway, here is a ghazal by Khursheed Umr who is from the
Houston area itself. Tomorrow's edition of Mehfil-e-Gazal 
will contain a ghazal by Zakia Ghazal.


zindagii kii raunaq ko yuu.N sajaanaa pa.Dataa hai
dard sahanaa pa.Dataa hai Gam chhupaanaa pa.Dataa hai

dil kii har tamannaa ko umr bhar ke armaa.N ko
masalahat ke chauKhaT par bhuul jaanaa pa.Dataa hai

jo havaa se bikhare.nge us gulo.n ko dekho to
har sabaa ke jho.nke pe jhuul jaanaa pa.Dataa hai

kis liye tumhe.n 'Khursheed' justajuu-e-tuufaa.N hai
ishq me.n to saahil pe Duub jaanaa pa.Dataa hai
