Bahadur Shah Zafar

Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last of the Mughal emperors. He was born in 1775. He was a weak king and his rule was characterized by lots of unrest, the dominition of the British, and last but not the least, the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. As a result of his involvement in the Sepoy Mutiny, the British exiled him to Rangoon where he lived the last few years of his years yearning to return to his homeland. He died in Rangoon in 1862 and is buried there.

baat karanii mujhe mushkil kabhii aisii to na thii

lagataa nahii.n hai dil meraa uja.De dayaar me.n
na kisii kii aa.Nkh kaa nuur huu.N
pas-e-marg mere mazaar par jo chiraaG kisii ne jalaa diyaa
shamashiir barahanaa maa.Ng Gazab baalo.n kii mahak phir vaisii hai
subah ro ro ke shaam hotii hai
the kal jo apane ghar me.n vo mahamaa.N kahaa.N hai.n
tum na aaye ek din kaa vaadaa kar do din talak
vo behijaab jo pii ke kal sharaab aayaa
yaa mujhe afsar-e-shaahaanaa banaayaa hotaa
yaar thaa gul_zaar thaa baad-e-sabaa thii mai.n na thaa
